Cooking and Crafting

In Crimson Desert you cook gathered, hunted and fished ingredients into food that restores Health, and craft and refine gear and furniture from mined, logged and gathered materials. Free updates added "Make Now" (1.01.00), food coolers (1.04.00) and the Workstation and Loom (1.12.00).

In Crimson Desert you cook ingredients you gather, hunt, fish or buy into food that restores Health, and you craft and refine weapons, armor and furniture from materials you mine, log and gather. Food is how you restore Health, and Pearl Abyss's first big patch on Mar 23, 2026 increased the Health restored by ingredients and food items. Cooking happens at a bonfire or a special cooking tool, crafting at tools such as the grindstone, the Workstation and the Loom, and refining at smithies; free updates since launch have made all three quicker.

Food and healing

Food heals. Eat it from a quick slot (food you pick up goes on one by itself since 1.00.03), and since 1.04.00 on Hard difficulty its effect starts only "after the consumption animation is complete" (notes). Your mount eats too: since 1.06.00 you can feed it from the inventory while riding (notes). Palmar Pills bring you back with 30% Health, according to TheGamer's Myurdin guide, and Carl at the Howling Hill camp sells restorative items for 1 Silver since 1.00.03. More on Health and Spirit is on Combat.

How to cook

Cooking turns raw ingredients into dishes. Pick a recipe in the Cooking menu at a bonfire or special cooking tool, choose the ingredients, and cook; since 1.01.00 "Make Now" does it at once without choosing ingredients (notes). The Charting the Unknown trailer shows the life around it: a man working over bowls and jars at an open-air counter by the water, then a market among tents and barns. The Cooking menu groups recipes of a type (Filling, Satisfying, Hearty) together, and since 1.08.00 griddle-cooked and pan-fried dishes come in fish, meat and vegetable versions. TheGamer's beginner tips add a trick: focus Blinding Flash on food to grill it.

On a wooden terrace with potted plants, a man with slicked-back hair in a gray vest, rolled sleeves and a yellow apron holds a large pan of chopped red and yellow vegetables over a round stone oven, a bowl of sauce beside him. Behind him, people sit eating at long tables under awnings.

Ingredients and where to find recipes

Ingredients come from the land and its farms. Pearl Abyss's "50 Minutes of Early Gameplay" (2024, a pre-release build) passes through a farming village where stalls of goods and rows of pots stand among the houses; since 1.01.00 regional farms have wholesale grocers (notes), and the Hernand Tavern got new food in 1.00.03. You also hunt, gather and fish: fish can be cleaned, and since 1.08.00 fish traps catch them too. Most recipes are found while exploring, according to TheGamer's recipe guide; Pearl Abyss's notes name recipes bought from shops, such as the four carpets of 1.13.00. Since 1.16.00, mushrooms count as alchemy materials, not cooking ones.

Storage keeps cooking close at hand. The Kuku Cooler (from a quest, 40 slots) and the crafted Enhanced Kuku Cooler (330 slots), placed in your house since 1.04.00, hold food and ingredients, and "ingredients stored in either cooler can be used for cooking even if they are not carried in your inventory" (notes). Your house is at the Greymane Camp.

Mining, logging and gathering

Materials for crafting come from ore veins, trees and plants. Since 1.00.03 ore veins are found automatically within 8 meters, logging takes fewer hits with ordinary swings, and approaching bismuth ore petrifies it by default (notes). Damiane and Oongka got a Mining Drill and a Chainsaw in 1.11.00 (notes); since 1.08.00 logging gives rough tree branches that stack, and logging and quarry missions reward timber and stones. The Large Farming Scythe can collect gatherable items since 1.10.00. The Sturdy Gatherables Chest (1,000 slots) feeds crafting and refining from storage.

Crafting and the Workstation and Loom

Crafting makes equipment, tools and furniture from recipes and blueprints. Patch 1.12.00 on Jun 19, 2026 added two crafting tools: Workstations, at the Greymane Camp and the Timberham Sawmill among other places, and Looms, such as the one at the Hernand Tailor's Shop. They craft the 58 new house items of that patch, from wells and fountains to braziers, carpets and pet furniture, whose manuals come from shops, claw machines, the flower basket crafting mission, the box of fortune and the Orb Roll challenge. Other notes added blueprints for superior branches (1.08.00) and recipes for elemental armor such as Lightning Bolt, Scorchflame and Frostcursed Plate Armor (1.13.00).

Painting missions, "Mass Craft Paintings" and "Craft Fine Paintings", arrived in 1.08.00 (notes). Dyehouses recolor outfits, and weapons since 1.13.00.

Refinement and Extraction

Refining raises a weapon's or armor's stage at a smithy. The Refinement Token of 1.01.00, from some main and faction quests, tempers gear up to Stage 4 with no other materials; 1.06.00 added Extraction, which gets back all of the special materials used (Artifacts, Aeserion's scale) and about 70% of the common ones (iron ore, copper ore, bloodstones) (notes); and 1.08.00 lets you refine instantly with a chosen method. Gear itself is on Weapons and Gear, and the minigames whose prizes include crafting manuals are on Side Activities and Minigames.
