Crimson Desert's pets began with cats and dogs you take in by feeding them and have grown through free updates to birds, legendary animals such as the Iron Eagle and Hyacinth Macaw, about 50 species of small animals, a Baby Wyvern and the Kuku Bird Chick. Since patch 1.11.00 (Jun 12, 2026) you can register up to 100 pets and have 50 out at the Greymane camp.

Crimson Desert's pets started at launch with cats and dogs you take in by feeding them, and free updates have added birds, legendary animals, dozens of small animals, a Baby Wyvern and the Kuku Bird Chick: since patch 1.11.00 on Jun 12, 2026 you can register up to 100 pets and have 50 of them out at the Greymane Camp. Pets follow Kliff, Damiane and Oongka, pick up loot, ride on your shoulder or sleep beside you, and some fight or hunt with the right sigil. Pearl Abyss counted "120 new mounts and pets" among its updates by Aug 12, 2026.

How to get a pet

You take in a cat or dog by feeding it, and feeding raises its level, which the inventory shows as growth since 1.10.00 for pets and horses alike. Since 1.08.00 you can take in a cat even while carrying it. Birds need more patience: since 1.04.00 you place food a bird might like on a Sotdae of Bond, an item a quest gives, to gain its Trust. Some pets hatch from eggs, and the pet challenges raise how many you may register.

Pets can be renamed (since 1.04.00, and since 1.11.00 they keep their names when they grow), released, carried and put down. The Pet Shop (called "Pets - Tailor's Shop" until 1.12.00) dresses them, and a secret shop in Pororin sells pet equipment and the sigils below.

Cats, dogs and birds

Cats ride on your shoulder. In 1.04.00 Pearl Abyss fixed cats that stayed there forever, but "considering that many Greymanes actually liked these cats' behavior", it added the Sigil of Bonding, which keeps a pet cat on your shoulder longer (notes). There is a cat tower at Furlington Farm in the Azerian Estate since 1.10.00.

Dogs fight. Equip the Sigil of Valor, sold by the Secret Shop NPC in Pororin since 1.06.00, and "pet dogs will attack enemies" (notes); floppy-eared bulldogs could wear it from 1.07.00, and the Iron Eagle and the Phoenix from 1.11.00. Birds hunt: the Hunter's Sigil of 1.13.00 sends a bird pet to "retrieve prey and gatherable items suited to their specialties" (notes).

Legendary pets and the Baby Wyvern

The Iron Eagle and the Hyacinth Macaw arrived in 1.05.00 on May 2, 2026 as "new legendary animals that can be kept as pets" (notes). The Baby Wyvern came in 1.08.00, with Pearl Abyss's promise that it would "grow and be registered as mounts in a future update"; 1.10.00 kept it by letting Baby Wyverns and the new Kuku Bird Chick serve as special mounts, with pet gear such as the Small Kuku Bird Eggshell and the Small Wyvern Aviator Hat (notes).

Pets and mounts

18:40 Horses and other Mounts are kept separately, in the stables, but you pet them the same way. Digital Foundry's PS5 Pro deep dive admires "the interactions with the horse, the way every hoof matches the terrain" while riding across open fields, and Kliff's horse levels up as you pet it, according to Game Rant's mounts guide. Since 1.08.00 the "pet" interaction for pets and horses works only when you aim at the animal, and a dodge cancels it.

Living with pets

Pets keep you company at the camp and on the road. Up to 50 can be out at the Greymane camp (1.11.00), and since 1.05.00 the minimap shows your pets there. Since 1.13.00 on Jul 3, 2026, "summoned pets will now rest together with the character when resting in a bed" (notes). Pets loot during combat and, since 1.01.00, stay close in a fight; since 1.08.00 they stay summoned after quests such as boss fights.

In Charting the Unknown

1:13 The DLC's reveal trailer shows a diver swimming beside a shark over a reef. Game Informer called it "a likely shark companion" in its Sep 3, 2026 report; Pearl Abyss has not named any new pet for Charting the Unknown, which comes out on Oct 29, 2026, as of Oct 21, 2026. Every pet so far came in a free update, listed on Patch Notes.
