Crimson Desert sold 2 million copies on launch day and 6 million by Jun 11, 2026, Pearl Abyss said, and on Steam it peaked at 276,261 players at once on Mar 29, 2026, SteamDB's measured all-time peak. Pearl Abyss called 6 million "an unprecedented sales milestone for a Korean-developed single-player game", and the trailer for the free Enhanced update in August opened on the card "The open world adventure loved by millions". Pearl Abyss has given no newer total as of Oct 21, 2026, and the Steam count has settled: SteamDB's highest count in the 30 days before Oct 21 was 28,918.

Copies sold

Crimson Desert started strong. Its launch trailer of Mar 12, 2026 ("It's time. To take back what was stolen") came a week before a launch for which it already had more than 3 million wishlists and stood first on Steam's global top sellers the day before release, Korea JoongAng Daily reported. Pearl Abyss's milestones:

Mar 19 to 20, 2026 (launch day) 2 million
Mar 24, 2026 (4 days) 3 million
Apr 1, 2026 (12 days) 4 million
Apr 15, 2026 (26 days) 5 million
Jun 11, 2026 (83 days) 6 million

Korea JoongAng Daily called 2 million on day one the first for a Korean packaged game, and later the fastest-selling Korean console game (May 20, 2026). Announcing 6 million, CEO Jin-young Heo said the company is "sincerely grateful to players around the world".

Pearl Abyss's earnings letter for April to June counts about 2.11 million copies sold in that quarter, 82% of them digital. That quarter overlaps the milestones above, so it is not added to them. No total after 6 million has been published as of Oct 21, 2026.

Revenue

Crimson Desert made Pearl Abyss's best quarter ever. In January to March 2026, with only 11 days on sale, the game brought in 266.5 billion won (about $177.7 million), split 50% console and 50% PC, and the company's revenue and operating profit hit all-time quarterly highs (Korea JoongAng Daily, May 12, 2026).

April to June was smaller. The game's revenue was 136.1 billion won, down 48.9% from the first quarter, for 402.6 billion won in the first half; the average selling price fell from about 74,000 won to about 63,000 won. Pearl Abyss cut its 2026 forecast for the game to 468.9 to 497.3 billion won, from 644.1 to 734.8, citing stores that count only part of a payment as revenue and a refund guarantee deferral to be booked later in 2026 (2Q26 Earnings Letter, Aug 11, 2026). It does not publish forecasts of copies sold.

Pearl Abyss's shares had risen more than 70% from December 2025, then fell more than 30% in launch week after the reviews (see Reception and Awards).

In the United States

Circana's charts put Crimson Desert near the top. It ranked 15th in March 2026, a chart built mostly from physical sales because Pearl Abyss did not share digital data, though Circana's Mat Piscatella said it was among the games that "led all titles in total projected full game spending" that month. With projected digital sales it was 3rd in April and 2nd for the year to date, behind Resident Evil Requiem (Wccftech, May 20, 2026), and still No. 2 for the year when Pearl Abyss announced 6 million.

Steam players

On Steam, Crimson Desert was the big PC launch Digital Foundry expected when it called it "probably one of the biggest PC releases this year" two weeks before release. SteamDB's measured counts of players online at once:

Launch night, Mar 20, 2026 239,045
All-time peak, Sunday, Mar 29, 2026 276,261
March 2026 Peak 276,261, average 166,425
April 2026 Peak 236,253
May 2026 Peak 104,341
June 2026 Peak 47,605
July 2026 Peak 26,659
August 2026 Peak 37,096
September 2026 Peak 44,164
30 days to Oct 21, 2026 Peak 28,918

The all-time peak of 276,261 came on the second Sunday after launch; SteamDB posted it on X on Mar 29, 2026, Pearl Abyss repeated it in its 5 million announcement, and SteamDB's chart still shows it as the record (read Oct 21, 2026). Will Powers, Pearl Abyss's marketing director, answered the record with "We did it! Thank you guys." (GamesRadar+, Mar 30, 2026).

The monthly peaks fell through July and rose again in August and September, the months of the free Crimson Desert Enhanced update (Aug 25), the game's first sale (20% off, Aug 24 to Sep 10) and patches 2.01.00 to 2.03.02. These counts are Steam only: Pearl Abyss publishes no player numbers for PlayStation, Xbox, Epic or the Mac App Store, and in the first quarter consoles made up half of the game's sales. The chart at the top of the Crimson Desert home page draws the same Steam count hour by hour.

Twitch

Crimson Desert was the third most watched game on Twitch in its launch week, with 27.1 million hours watched by Streams Charts' count and a peak near 500,000 viewers, Pearl Abyss said on Jun 12, 2026. Twitch Drops ran from Mar 19 to Apr 1, 2026.

What comes next

The next test is the first DLC. Charting the Unknown, whose reveal trailer sails a ship to new islands and dives below them, comes out on Oct 29, 2026 at 22:00 UTC for $24.99. How it sells, and whether it lifts the Steam count, is not known yet; neither is any sales total after 6 million. Pearl Abyss is targeting the first half of 2027 for a Nintendo Switch 2 version (earnings letter, Aug 11, 2026). The whole story of the game is on Development History.
