What Pearl Abyss has said
Pearl Abyss first spoke of the Switch 2 at its shareholder meeting on Jul 7, 2026. CEO Jin-young Heo said the studio was "reviewing the Nintendo Switch 2" and that the game "is currently being developed to a level where basic gameplay is possible", adding that "platform expansion is not just a simple port" and that "it is difficult to confirm a release schedule", as MP1st reported from Inven Global on Jul 8, 2026. He promised to announce it "transparently once there is confirmed information."
The 2Q26 earnings letter on Aug 11 went further and named a window: "working toward a release targeted for the first half of 2027." KitGuru reported that the letter puts the port under the game's "platform expansion", beside DLC and pricing, with performance and quality still being checked. TheGamer read it on Aug 12, 2026 as a tentative target rather than a firm commitment. Pearl Abyss has said nothing newer about the Switch 2 version since, as of Oct 21, 2026.
Why it is a hard port
Crimson Desert is a demanding game on far stronger machines. Digital Foundry's PS5 Pro review found the 60fps Performance mode falling into the 30s in a battle with many enemies at once, a section it believed to be limited by the processor, and in panicking city crowds. On PC, Pearl Abyss's minimum is a Ryzen 5 2600X or Core i5-8500 with 16 GB of memory, a GeForce GTX 1060 and 150 GB on an SSD (Steam), and the Steam Deck, which Steam lists as Unsupported, often fell below 30fps at the lowest settings in Steam Deck HQ's test of Aug 14, 2026. How Pearl Abyss will scale the BlackSpace Engine's ray-traced lighting and water to the Switch 2 has not been shown (PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Performance).
The closest precedent is the Xbox Series S, the weakest console the game runs on. Digital Foundry found in April 2026 that its 40fps mode drops to 720p without ray tracing, according to Pure Xbox's summary. The Mac version is the other example of Pearl Abyss bringing the game to new hardware: it runs on Apple silicon from an M2 Pro, M3 or M4 upward, with MetalFX upscaling and frame generation.
What is not known
Nobody outside Pearl Abyss knows the Switch 2 version's date, price, size, frame rate or resolution, or whether it will include Charting the Unknown, the first DLC, which comes out on Oct 29, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store only. Pearl Abyss has also not said whether the Switch 2 version will start from the current game, which since Aug 25, 2026 is Crimson Desert Enhanced, or whether a physical edition is planned. There is no Switch 1 version, and none has been mentioned.
