Myurdin

Myurdin is the leader of the Black Bears, the Greymanes' sworn enemies in Crimson Desert. Kliff loses to him in the prologue whatever happens, beats him in a two-phase fight at Ashclaw Keep in Chapter 7, and meets him a last time in Chapter 12 as Myurdin, the Avatar of Umbra (Game Rant).

Myurdin is the leader of the Black Bears, the Greymanes' sworn enemies in Crimson Desert, and the first great enemy Kliff meets: their night ambush in the prologue scatters the Greymanes, Kliff cannot win his first fight with Myurdin there, and he only gets his revenge in Chapter 7 at Ashclaw Keep, in a two-phase boss fight, according to Game Rant. Pearl Abyss's "50 Minutes of Early Gameplay" (Sep 12, 2024, a pre-release build) opens on that night: wrecked carts and tents burning in the dark, Kliff waking among the flames and fighting through the camp. Spoilers for the whole story follow below the Quick facts. All the bosses are on Bosses.

The Black Bears

Pearl Abyss's own summary of the story begins with Myurdin's men: "A devastating ambush in the deep of night by their sworn enemies, the Black Bears, leaves members of the Greymanes dead or scattered across the continent", and Kliff sets out to reunite the survivors. Pearl Abyss described the 2024 footage the same way: Kliff "embroiled in a fierce skirmish against the brutal Black Bears" that scatters him and his comrades Oongka, Yann and Naira. Game Rant named Myurdin as the Black Bears' leader in December 2024. The whole tale is on Story.

The prologue ends with Kliff facing a boss alone in that burning camp. In the 2024 footage a boss health bar appears at the top of the screen at 4:58 as Kliff fights among the flames and burning wreckage, until he goes down.

Can you beat Myurdin in the prologue?

No. "Myurdin is not beatable in the Prologue of Crimson Desert," Game Rant's guide says (Jake Fillery, Mar 20, 2026): even if you bring his health down, the same cutscene plays as when you lose, you get no reward, and the cutscene carries Kliff out of the prologue into the main game. Losing is part of the story.

The Black Bears stay at war with the land through the middle of the game. In IGN's "13 Minutes of Gameplay" (Aug 15, 2025, a pre-release demo) a soldier in Hernand reports, "Marshall, we've lost another outpost to the Black Bears", and Kliff, called "Greymane", sets off to reach a comrade holding out in the keep.

Spoilers: Ashclaw Keep in Chapter 7

Chapter 7, "Homecoming" in Game Rant's chapter list, takes the war back to Pailune, the Greymanes' homeland. Kliff faces Myurdin at Ashclaw Keep, and Oongka first becomes playable when Kliff is incapacitated there, according to Game Rant (Mar 19 and Apr 1, 2026). This time Myurdin can be beaten.

TheGamer's guide (Harry Alston, Mar 19, 2026) on the fight:

  • Phase one: Myurdin is fast, with slams and flurries that are hard to block or parry. Stay away from the explosive barrels, which can kill you. When he drops onto all fours, do not attack; dodge and block until he stands.
  • The opening: when he stands still, hit him with Blinding Flash, then Force Palm to stagger him; a heavy attack can extend the stun.
  • Phase two: he becomes a lava form with flame attacks, charges of three or four lava bears in a row and slams that can take most of your health. The burning arena makes the barrels deadlier. Blinding Flash is harder to land here, so the reviewer relied on Force Palm.
  • Preparation: raise health and stamina, finish the sword abilities on Kliff's tree, stock Chewy Rice Cakes (sold by Ronnie at the Greymane Camp, restocked daily) and craft Palmar Pills, which revive you with 30 percent health, according to TheGamer.

Since Apr 23, 2026 (version 1.04.00) the game has Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty settings; Hard adds extra boss patterns. More is on Combat.

The launch trailer (Mar 12, 2026) has a meeting like this one. A voice says, "So, you're finally here," Kliff answers, "You were expecting me?", and a figure in red fur armor with a silver bear's head on its shoulder replies, "You Greymanes are a hard lot to kill. Clawing your way back from death's door over and over." Pearl Abyss does not name the speaker in the trailer.

Spoilers: Myurdin, the Avatar of Umbra

Myurdin returns in the last chapter. In Chapter 12, inside The Abyss, Kliff fights Corrupted Caliburn and then "Myurdin, the Avatar of Umbra", the fight before the final boss Umbra, according to Game Rant's boss list. The name is Pearl Abyss's own: its patch notes fixed "an unintended combat pattern" for "Myurdin, the Avatar of Umbra" in version 1.06.00 (May 11, 2026).
