Pailune

Pailune, the Tribal State of Pailune, is the northern homeland of the Greymanes in Crimson Desert, the land they lose to the Black Bears' night ambush at the start of the game and win back in Chapter 7, "Homecoming". The Greymane camp can later move there, which gives Kliff the Private Storage.

Pailune, the Tribal State of Pailune, is the northern region of Pywel that the Greymanes call home: Pearl Abyss describes Kliff as "a warrior of the Greymanes, a faction from the northern region of Pailune known for its commitment to peace and unity". Crimson Desert "begins in the aftermath of that peace being shattered", and the whole story is Kliff's effort to reunite the Greymanes and "reclaim their homeland" (Pearl Abyss, Jan 29, 2026). Pearl Abyss's White Horn video (a gamescom 2024 demo build) shows the kind of country Game Rant's Pailune list is full of: Kliff and a band of fur-clad warriors cross a snowy mountainside under pines, then are attacked in the falling snow.

The homeland lost

Crimson Desert opens with the end of Pailune's peace. Steam's premise: "On the continent of Pywel, the rival factions of Pailune maintained a tense balance", until "a devastating ambush in the deep of night by their sworn enemies the Black Bears leaves members of the Greymanes dead or scattered across the continent." Pearl Abyss's "50 Minutes of Early Gameplay" (Sep 12, 2024, a pre-release build) begins in that night: Kliff fights through a camp on fire, among burning tents and trees, sword against axe at close quarters. The Black Bears are led by Myurdin, and the prologue fight against him cannot be won, according to Game Rant.

The Greymanes' tribal roots show most in Oongka, one of Kliff's comrades scattered by the ambush. In Pearl Abyss's "Meet the Cast" video (Feb 25, 2026), his English voice, Stewart Scudamore, calls him "a nomadic warrior" with a passion for fighting "for his people, for his tribe, and for the Greymanes", and says he turned out more philosophical than he first expected.

Chapter 7: Homecoming

Spoilers follow. Kliff's return to Pailune is the turn of the war, the payoff of the Official Launch Trailer's first words: "It's time. To take back what was stolen." In Game Rant's chapter list, Chapter 7, "Homecoming", includes the quests "Shadows Over Pailune", "Decisive Battle", "Battle at Silverwolf Mountain", "Ludvig's Whereabouts" and "Time to Face Justice". Kliff faces Myurdin at Ashclaw Keep and Ludvig at Pailune Castle, and Oongka becomes playable for the first time when Kliff is struck down at Ashclaw Keep, according to Game Rant.

Pearl Abyss's own notes confirm parts of it: patch 1.03.00 (Apr 11, 2026) fixed problems "when Pailune was liberated while in a wanted state in Chapter 7" (Pearl Abyss), and 1.18.00 (Aug 15, 2026) improved "Time to Face Justice", the quest in which Kliff meets Torstein (Pearl Abyss). The same patch names Pailune's own tradespeople: Gunter the equipment vendor, Harry the blacksmith, Bronton the stablekeep and Lola the seamstress. The full chapter list is on Main Quests and Chapters.

The camp moves to Pailune

Once Pailune is free, the Greymane Camp can move from Howling Hill in Hernand to Pailune Camp. Moving it gives Kliff the Private Storage item, and the camp's house layouts include a Spacious Pailunese House (1.04.00, Apr 23, 2026; Pearl Abyss). A hotfix the next day made the furniture placed in the house move with the camp. Patch 1.08.00 (May 22, 2026) added fish ponds at both Howling Hill and Pailune Camp (Pearl Abyss).

Pailune also has a saddlery that sells saddles for bears (1.06.00), one of the seven wagon workshops and the Pailune Trading Post (both 1.16.00, Aug 1, 2026; Pearl Abyss), and an Abyss Nexus for fast travel, added in 1.02.00 on Apr 4, 2026 (Pearl Abyss). One quest has Kliff free bound Pailune refugees (1.06.00).

Places and bosses

Pailune's best-known boss is White Horn, Shepherd of Souls: in Pearl Abyss's video a huge white-furred, antlered beast rises out of a blizzard and fights Kliff across the snow. Game Rant places it at Skoghorn Farm in the Argent Peaks, a three-phase fight in which a fire attack sets its fur alight. Game Rant's Pailune list has 13 bosses: Frostwalker Tervis, Karanda, White Horn, Mudwalker Lutemir, Bloodwalker Crussis, White Bearclaw, White Bear of the High Mountains, Tarandus the Ashen, Myurdin, Ludvig, Titan, the Black Bear Siege Engine and Moren the Mistwood Hunter.

The same list names Pailune places including Wayward Woods, Harpy's Nest, Snowhaven Hearth, the Swamp of Despair, Silverwolf Mountain, Vat'nholl Fortress, Fort Askelund, Odeck, Ashclaw Keep, Pailune Castle and Windsong Peaks. One of the three "Overwhelming Beings", Ator, Archon of Antumbra, waits in Pailune's Cloister of Ruination. The rest are on Bosses.
